Electric Excitement: Mazda Teases Next-Generation MX-5 with the Possibility of Going Electric

Mazda has provided a teaser of its next-generation MX-5, sparking speculation that the iconic roadster could go electric. The teaser image shows a concept car with rear light signatures similar to Mazda's Vision Study Model, which debuted last year. The Vision Study Model is believed to be an electric vehicle due to its lack of exhaust pipes and low bonnet line. While the teaser does not confirm an electric MX-5, Mazda's plans to transition to electrification make an electric version of the popular roadster plausible. The next-generation MX-5, known as the NE version, is expected to launch in the mid-2020s, aligning with Mazda's timeline for electrification. However, the current ND model still has plenty of life left and will receive updates to its chassis and technology starting in 2024. The MX-5 is currently unrivaled in the small-roadster market and has a strong following. As other brands introduce larger and more expensive roadsters, Mazda's electrification strategy could help it maintain its dominance in the segment.

"Discover the Forgotten Legend: The Sunbeam Tiger, the British Shelby Cobra That Could Have Been!"

Have you heard of the Sunbeam Tiger? It's a British sports car that could have been the equivalent of the legendary Shelby Cobra. Built by the Rootes Group from 1964 to 1967, the Tiger was a V8-powered, two-door, two-seater coupe just like the Cobra. In fact, early prototypes of the Tiger were developed by none other than Carroll Shelby himself. While the Tiger may not be as well-known as the Cobra, it shouldn't be overlooked. It was a powerful and enjoyable alternative for those looking for a sports car with some British charm. Unlike the stripped-down and focused Cobra, the Tiger was designed with daily driving in mind. It had amenities like a wood steering wheel, wood trim on the dash, a radio, and a telescopic steering wheel. The Tiger also had its fair share of racing pedigree. It won first place in events such as the Geneva Rally, Monte Carlo Rally, and Scottish Rally in 1965. In the US, the Tiger Mark II held the American Hot Rod Association national record within its class for two years. While the Tiger may be rarer to find nowadays, it's definitely worth considering for classic car enthusiasts. And with a price tag starting at $90,000, it's more affordable than a brand-new Shelby Cobra. So if you're in the market for a British sports car with American muscle, don't overlook the Sunbeam Tiger.
